Why Hey! Pikmin is a Good Thing

Now, for those who don’t know, Hey! Pikmin is a new game in the Pikmin series. This is a spinoff of the series, yet some people are upset about the game. However, this is a very good sign for the Pikmin series, and is showing that it’s going to continue being one of Nintendo’s stronger franchises.

The main reason that this is a good sign is with an example of one of Nintendo’s other franchises, Star Fox. The series is known for Star Fox 64, and having other games that are mediocre at best. The series just had main series games, and no spinoffs. This made the time between releases shorter, allowing less time to perfect the games.

This greatly affects Pikmin, as Pikmin 4 is confirmed to be finished, yet hasn’t been released. This is probably because it was developed on Wii U software and is being ported to the Nintendo Switch. The release of this spinoff is allowing Nintendo to port the game fully and correctly, with our thirst for a new game being satiated with this spinoff.

The other major point is that the spinoff isn’t a major departure from the standard formula. The series is an exploration/puzzle series, and this game looks to continue that tradition. Hey! Pikmin takes away the Z-axis, making the game focus more on the puzzle aspect rather than the exploration formula.

This is a good sign overall, as it also introduces Pikmin onto a handheld, possibly showing how Pikmin 4 could handle portability. It also brings the series to the many who have a 3Ds, as a Pikmin 4 release date is very likely at E3. Also the amiibo that you can get looks amazing.
