Top Five Wii U Games
With the Nintendo Switch not even a month away, the Wii U has been put to rest. Now, it didn’t do the best commercially, but it had an amazing set of games that came with it, including the new IP of Splatoon and the new Super Smash Bros. game. Now which of these great games were my favorite? Also please note that these games are exclusive to the Wii U, so, sorry Shovel Knight!
5. The Legend of Zelda Windwaker HD
This isn’t my first Zelda game, and it’s also not my favorite Zelda game, but it was my first Wii U game. Not only does the cell shading from the original get enhanced on the Wii U, but the gameplay also feels better, and being able to use the Gamepad as an inventory screen is very helpful.
4. Star Fox Zero
This is my favorite Star Fox game. Granted it’s my only Star Fox game, but that doesn’t make it any less amazing. Seeing the familiar crew and familiar sights, along with the fast paced action and intuitive puzzles made this game a fun time all the way. It’s also got branching paths, and the main story can be played in co-op. The controls do take a little getting used to, but if you actually try to learn them, they’ll end up feeling natural.
3. Super Mario Maker
Super Mario Maker is a game that can give you a great time, or make you want to rip out your eyeballs. And I’m totally fine with that. It gives you all the tools, and more, used to make the actual side scrolling Mario games. And the creative people of the world used this template to make impressive “Keep Running” or “Stand Still” stages that move around and with you. There are also many players who recreated songs with music blocks, or recreated normal Mario levels! Even when some sadists got the game and made levels, you would still want to keep playing, because you’re so close to the end. This game is going to be staying strong until the end of the Wii U’s internet connection, if it doesn’t get a Switch Remake by then.
2. Pikmin 3
Not only was it my first Pikmin game, but it was also one of the games I had most wanted on the system. It’s a great game with beautiful graphics, easy to learn but hard to master gameplay, and an interesting story to boot. It also provides literal hours of entertainment. Me and my friend spent at least three to four hours a day playing the Collect Treasure mode, and we platinum ranked all of the non-DLC stages. I suggest if you have a Wii U, you get this game.
1. Splatoon
This game. I have spent so much time with this game and I’ve barely scratched the surface. It’s got different weapons, gear, maps, and ways to play. Not only was this Nintendo’s first real shooter, but it was also their newest IP since the original Pikmin. It’s controls feel great, and it’s the only shooter I can think of with an interesting and fun single-player campaign. But after gushing over the original, how’s the sequel on the switch going to do better?
