Steven has returned to Beach City, and was just catching up with Sadie Killer and the Suspects last episode. But he and Garnet haven’t had time to hang out, so that’s exactly what he does in this episode. So, what high jinks do those two get up to?

Story (SPOILERS)

We see Steven exploring Beach City, and as he goes to the Big Donut, he sees that Garnet is working there. When he asks why, she says that she wants to escape her future vision, so she wants to be random. Steven decides to join along with her, and they start messing around. They go to Vidalia, and as they’re being painted they see a kitten and chase it to its home. There they find more kittens, all without food. Garnet then starts to break down and explain that she’s been doing random things because the timeline that they live in is so strange. She hasn’t been able to see what’s happening with Steven’s choices, and it scares her. But Steven helps her and they call the nearby shelter, who says that they’ll pick up the cats. However, Garnet decides to adopt one, and names it Cat.

Presentation

Visually, this episode doesn’t do too much different from most episodes. However, the slow break down of Garnet is apparent as her speech gets less sure until she eventually breaks down. This is represented by rain starting to fall on her and Steven, continuing the Future Sight water metaphor.

Final Thoughts

This was a good episode, because it was very character focused. We see Garnet trying to be crazy, and then she eventually breaks down, which really humanizes her from her leadership role in the Crystal Gems. Also, it’s great whenever Steven gets a new pet, this time it’s a kitten that’s missing an eye.

7.2/10
