Kevin is a long time character in Steven Universe, even though this is only his third episode. However, every Kevin episode has him interacting with Stevonnie, and with Steven and Connie not talking to each other, a problem arises. So, does this episode deal the rift between Steven and Connie?

Story (SPOILERS)

The episode starts with Steven on the boardwalk, and Kevin drives up to him. Kevin invites Steven to a party he’s throwing. Steven denies until he hears that Connie is going to be there. Kevin only invited them so Stevonnie could appear. When Steven gets there he wants to go talk to Connie about their recent problems. But, Kevin starts coaching Steven on what to do. During this sequence Steven starts acting and dressing like Kevin, and when he talks to Connie, it doesn’t go well. But, Connie comes back and talks with Steven about what has recently happened. They end up being friends again, and leave the party on Lion.

Presentation

“Kevin Party” adheres to the trend carried through almost all the episodes of being in a new location each episode, with this time being at Kevin’s House, more specifically his pool. However, a great part of this episode is seeing Kevin try to coach Steven, progressively dressing Steven more and more like Kevin. We also see that Connie cut her hair, which helps change up her design, as well as eventually giving a new form to Stevonnie.

Final Thoughts

This episode was a great way to finish this group. It sees the return of a character who always tests Steven and Connie’s relationship, and actually has him bring them together intentionally. We also see a more caring and vulnerable side to Kevin, but not for long. This is all in addition to the fulfilling conclusion to the overarching story through these episodes, that being the relationship between Steven and Connie.

7.5/10
