Steven Universe has been running fairly constantly as of late, actually keeping its schedule of once a week on Monday. But these recent episodes have been more focused on the characters around Beach City. But whenever there’s a thirty minute special, you know there’s going to be some new story details. The last thirty minute special brought with it the reveal of Pink Diamond, so what’s going to happen today?

Story (SPOILERS)

Steven is woken up by Ronaldo, and he shows him that there’s a barn on the moon. Steven travels up to the moon to talk with Lapis. Steven finds the barn abandoned, and discovers Lapis is in the base. Lapis has been using an observation device in the base to watch Peridot from afar. Steven talks with Lapis, but ends up falling asleep, where he gets another vision of the Diamonds. It has Blue talking to Pink about the Crystal Gems. We then see Pearl sneak up and draw a sword, and then glare at Steven. Lapis gets scared of this and decides to go as far away as possible, without even taking the barn.

Presentation

This episode takes us to a place we haven’t been in a while, the Moon Base. We also see a gem we haven’t seen in a while, Lapis. Both look great, and the darkness of the Moon Base is reflected on her and Steven. But we finally get the long awaited Lapis song, and it was amazing. It’s calm, but has a sense of loneliness as you can mostly only hear Lapis singing.

Final Thoughts

This is the way to do character episodes. We got some serious moments and actual character development. This was in addition to some moments that moved the plot forward, as well as a great song. While Lapis may be gone for now, I doubt that that will be the case for long.

9/10
