Star Wars: The Last Jedi Review (SPOILER FREE)
After The Force Awakens brought everyone back into the Star Wars universe in 2015, everyone wanted to know what had changed. Who are Rey’s parents? Who is Snoke? Why did Luke abandon everyone? Well, that’s where The Last Jedi comes in, bringing us back to the eternal Skywalker conflict.
Story
Picking up from The Force Awakens, Rey is training with Luke to become a Jedi. We also see the First Order hunting down the Resistance, clearly upset about the loss of Starkiller base. And I am not saying anything else, so go watch the movie if you want to know what happened.
Presentation
The Last Jedi totes a new director than Force Awakens, that being Rian Johnson. In the movie, we see tons of different very cinematic shots, which looks great with all the different and interesting planets we visit. This includes some familiar planets, but there aren’t too many new planets. There is one cool style that Johnson tends to do, which is take out all the audio in a cinematic shot, and is saved for the important moments. The practical effects and CGI both look great, and it’s amazing just how realistic the aliens and backgrounds look, really helping cement how much of real universe this is. We even see some familiar faces from both the original trilogy and The Force Awakens.
Final Thoughts
Overall, The Last Jedi is an amazing movie. With some clever plot twists, the movie keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. There are only a few things I didn’t like about the movie, but these didn’t stop my overall enjoyment of the movie. While this isn’t the best Star Wars movie, it’s nowhere near the worst.
