Splatoon 2 Nintendo Direct

Cutting to the chase, Splatoon 2 is 15 days away, and here’s all the info we were given on the game.

Turf War and Ranked battles will stay as main game modes. The main hub is Inkopolis Square. You can chose your skin color, eye color, hairstyle, and legwear when making a character. The galleria houses gear and weapon shops. Flow is the hat and glasses sales person. Jelfonzo is the shopkeeper for the shirt shop. Bisk is the shoe salesman. Sheldon is the returning weapon salesman, from the original game.

Weapons

Weapons come in sets of three with the main weapon, a sub weapon, and a special weapon. Shooters are good for splatting opponents and inking turf. Rollers can ink lots of turf very fast, and can steamroll opponents, or fling a wall of ink at enemies. Chargers are the snipers of Splatoon, and aren’t the best at inking turf. Splatling Cannons must be charged, but then act as a mini gun of ink. Sloshers are a bucket of ink, that are weird, but very powerful. Blasters shoot a ball of ink that explode in midair. Some weapons have functionality not in the first game. Chargers let you keep their charge when you swim in ink, rollers can be swung vertically, and the splat dualies let you dodge roll.

Clash Blaster — short range, rapid fire rate, large explosion.

Flingza Roller — fast horizontal swing, long vertical swing.

Goo Tuber — holds charge for extremely large time.

Dapple Dualies — light weight, faster dodge roll.

Sub weapons are additions to the main weapon.

Autobomb — tracks and hunts enemies.

Toxic Mist — thrown at enemies, creates harmful gas.

Many new sub weapons are in development. Special weapons are released when a meter reaches the top, and all of these specials are new.

Tenta Missiles — lock on to enemies, fire many projectiles.

Ink Jet — fly through the air, launch explosive ink blobs.

Sting Ray - shoots stream of ink through walls.

Splashdown — slam on ground for explosion.

Ink Storm - giant ink cloud.

Bomb Launcher — launch bomb barrage.

Ink Armor -increase defense of teammates.

Baller — giant explosive hamster ball that can climb walls.

Stages and Modes

Many modes will be contained in Splatoon 2, and here are a few. Turf War - cover the most turf to win. Stages include The Reef, Musselforge Fitness, Inkblot Art Academy, Starfish Main Stage, Surgeon Shipyard, Humpback Pump Track, Port Mackerel,and Moray Towers. Ranked Mode has three modes that rotate every two hours, Tower Control, Splat Zones, and Rainmaker. Your rank increases if you win, and decreases if you lose. This helps match you with players of a similar level. However in Splatoon 2, you have a different rank for each mode. League Battles play out as ranked battles for 2 hours, or until the stages change.

Abilities

Murch can change abilities on different gear. He can also add or remove abilities. But what are these abilities?

Thermal Ink — Track players you’ve hit with your weapon.

Object Shredder - break non player targets faster

Quick Respawn — respawn quicker

Respawn Punisher — increases respawn time

Drop Roller — lets you roll after a super jump

You can see other players gear on the map screen.

Salmon Run

Work as a team of four to splat Salmonids. However, you can only play when the Salmonids are on the move.

Steel Eel - block path and lay ink wherever they are.

Flyfish — Use ink jet and tenta missiles

Steelhead- throws bombs

Water level can change, and fog can roll in, as well as faster salmonids at night.

Splatnet 2

An app that shows schedules, stats, and items. It shows how you did in many battles. You can also see your lifetime inkage. There is also a shop found in the app. It will be part of Nintendo Switch Online can also be used for team voice chat.

Amiibo

You can save a loadout, nicname, and outfit to any Splatoon amiibo. Then it can be tapped to instantly use those settings, and get some exclusive gear. There will be new Splatoon amiibo.

Food

You can get extra experience and money from battles after you eat food.

The Shoal

An area where you can connect with other people to play online, or in local multiplayer. There is also a new minigame, Squidbeats 2, which is just a simple rhythm game.

Single Player

Fight the Octarians in many different challenges. You can also use many different weapons unlike in original Splatoon. Marie is also worried about something.

Updates

New weapons are in development, and will be released in free updates.

Splat Brella - Blaster that can block attacks

Bubble Blower - Special that can make chain bomb reaction

Tons of new gear and stages will also be released for around a year, and two years of Splatfests.

Splatfest

An event that makes you choose a side, and compete in Turf Wars. You can also now fight with your friends on the same team.

Off the Hook

The news hosts for Splatoon 2 are two characters named Pearl and Marina, who replace Callie and Marie. They announced that a Splatfest World Premiere will release before the game, July 15th, from 3pm - 7pm. The theme is cake vs ice cream. And weall know Marina and Ice Cream are the best choices.
