Shovel Knight Showdown Revealed
Shovel Knight is by far one of the most successful indie games, becoming so popular as to become an assist trophy in the upcoming Super Smash Bros Ultimate. In its initial Kickstarter, multiple campaigns were promised, and even though the final campaign hasn’t yet released, another new mode is being shown off.
That mode is Shovel Knight Showdown, which allows up to four players to fight against each other as many of the games characters. The goal of these fights are to collect a certain number of gems, which randomly appear, and can be taken by killing other players with gems. You can also fight against AI, whether on your own or with a team. There are multiple modes as well, which are Gem Clash, Showdown, and a full story mode which is tailored to each character. These also offer different minigames, challenges, and a final encounter depending on who you choose.
There are multiple stages to battle on, all of which reference locations from the main Shovel Knight campaign. Each of these stages also have their own gimmicks, which are similar to the gimmicks you would deal with while playing the main game.
However, the most exciting thing about this isn’t just the mode, but the fact that you can play as tons of different characters, each of which handle uniquely and according to their design. There will be over 16 playable characters, all of which have not yet been revealed. However, there have already been 12 fighters shown off, which can be seen below.
Shovel Knight Showdown will be released next year. It will be $9.99 as a standalone game, or a free update to Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. This will be released to all systems with Treasure Trove except for the Nintendo 3DS and Playstation Vita.
