Ranking Every Scooby-Doo Theme Song
Scooby-Doo is one of the most popular cartoon series, and has been around for over 49 years now. The gang has solved hundreds of mysteries in this time across multiple series. Scooby-Doo also has some of the most iconic intros across the multitude of series. So, the question have to be asked, which of the theme songs are the best?
11. Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo
This song puts a large emphasis on the worst part of Scooby-Doo, Scrappy-Doo. You’d be hard pressed to find people who actually like Scrappy, so putting him into a repetitive theme song was not the best choice.
10. Be Cool Scooby Doo!
In its short runtime, this show has become infamous for its animation that looks like a Family Guy cutaway gag. While this already hurts the theme song, the lyric less and relatively bland song don’t help either.
9. The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo
While the previous entry didn’t have any lyrics, this one just has straight up talking. All through the theme song we get an exposition dump over what would otherwise be a pretty good intro.
8. The New Scooby-Doo and Scrappy Doo Show
This uses the most common theme, but it also doesn’t overstay its welcome. It’s a short but sweet theme that’s not great, but not terrible either. Just the right amount of balance.
7. Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated
While this may be a wordless theme, it’s still very well put together musically. The tone of the song changes when each new character is shown, and these glimpses of the crew tell you basically everything you need to know in a few seconds.
6. A Pup Named Scooby-Doo
An upbeat theme showing Scooby and the gang’s adventures when they were young is what you get here, and it shows that Scooby-Doo themes are good, no matter what age Scooby’s at. Now I’m just looking forward to the Old Man Scooby theme.
5. The Scooby Doo Show
The theme here switches between a group of singers looking in, and Shaggy while he’s in certain situations. This contrast helps show both sides of Scooby-Doo, the viewers side as well as the characters. All the while everybody is rightfully commenting on how great Scooby-Doo is.
4. The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries
What starts out as the same old looking for Scooby song ends up travelling across musical genres and locations, all while staying catchy. The intro itself is also pretty good, with danger, mystery, and dancing monsters. It’s basically the Thriller of Scooby-Doo openings.
3. The New Scooby-Doo Movies
This song has the melody that would be repeated in many other Scooby-Doo themes, but it’s so catchy that I don’t even mind. The song is upbeat, and brings attention to how Scooby is a coward, which is pretty important to his character. Plus, it has a cameo of Batman and Robin!
2. Scooby Doo, Where Are You?
This is the classic theme song that everyone knows. It also has two versions, each with a different singer but with the same lyrics, and both still manage to be great and iconic. However, while this theme did start the show, and is beloved by all, there’s one other song that really tops this.
1. What’s New, Scooby Doo?
This song is a banger from beginning to end. It takes parts of the original theme, and makes them fit the more driven and rock and roll-esque style of this theme. But it also brings in lyrics and ideas of its own, as any good intro should do. This isn’t even mentioning the video it plays over, which is a much better representation of Scooby-Doo than the original. It’s got action, comedy, shows off character traits, and even has the infamous multiple door chase sequence. If you’re looking for the ultimate Scooby-Doo theme, then you have found it.
