Halloween is not only the scariest holiday, but also one of the best horror movie franchises. So, with confirmation of a new movie next year, and today actually being Halloween, I decided to rank every released Halloween movie. So, which do I think are the best and which are the worst?

10. Halloween 3: Season of the Witch

This is what I believe to be the worst of all the Halloween movies. Not only does it not have Michael Myers, the story is terrible. It involves a company that makes Halloween masks using an old Celctic ritual using a part of Stonehenge. This plan also ends up turning kids’ heads into bugs and snakes. However the worst part is the Silver Shamrock theme that plays very often in the movie, and is insanely annoying.

9. Halloween Resurrection

While this movie is ahead of III, it’s not by very much. In fact, the best part is the very beginning when Laurie is in the asylum. That’s because she’s been preparing for Michael. However, he pulls a trick to get her close and sadly ends up killing Laurie, putting an end to her legacy. It also ruins Michael’s awesome death from H20, just to make more money. The rest of the movie does a stupid live stream in the Myers house. Busta Rhymes is also in the movie, and defeats Michael Myers with Kung-fu.

8. Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers

This is a really weird movie, and I’ve got mixed feelings on it. It has Jamie Lloyd having a baby, which is a central plot point. It also kills Jamie, but it does bring back Tommy Doyle, the kid Laurie babysat in the first movie. This movie also tries to explain Michael’s reason for being crazy, but it doesn’t work. Sadly, Donald Pleasance, who played Dr. Loomis, died during production of this movie, making it the last one he worked on.

7. Halloween (2007)

This is the first of the remakes by Rob Zombie. It’s not a terrible film, but it doesn’t do much different from the original. However, it does dive more into the psyche of Michael, and helps explain him much better than Halloween 6. The second act is also just a rushed remake of the original. Once again, it’s not bad, just not very original.

6. Halloween II (2009)

This time Zombie was able to tell an original story, and I think it is better than the previous remake of his. One great thing is Michael only using his mask when he kills, making it a lot more meaningful, as well as keeping him hidden from the cops. However, the characters in the movie suck, from Laurie now being obnoxious and whiny, and Loomis being much more egotistical.

5. Halloween 5: The Revenge Of Michael Myers

This movie takes place soon after 4, but has a few problems. First off, Jamie is now a mute. She’s also somewhat psychic, including a link with Michael. This is in addition to characters that I really just don’t care about. However, the ending is great, with Michael and Jamie fighting throughout the Myers house, with a few tense moments. Sadly, it does set up 6 with the Culr of Thorn, which was not a good part of the series.

4. H20: 20 Years Later

This movie is this high up just because of Laurie and the ending. So, Laurie is back, as this movie erases 4, 5, and 6, a move that I don’t love, but don’t hate either. However, Laurie is haunted by that night with Michael. When he does find her though, it is great. She takes him on head on, and she ends up decapitating Michael, something which sadly gets retconned by Resurrection. Other than that, you could watch the movie just for the end.

3. Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers

This movie, obviously, brought Michael Myers back. It didn’t have Laurie, as she died in a crash between movies. However we meet her daughter Jamie, who’s actually pretty cool. We also get to meet up with Loomis again, which is always a plus. However, the ending had Jamie kill her mother and setting up her as the next killer, which was just stupid.

2. Halloween II

Halloween II is a rare case in which the sequel starts at the literal end of the previous movie. The movie starts with the end of the original, and follows Laurie in the hospital from her injuries. The hospital makes a unique setting for Michael to explore. The ending is also great, with Michael being visibly hurt, and Dr. Loomis blowing both Michael and himself up.

1. Halloween

Sometimes the first movie in a franchise is the best. That’s the case for Halloween at least. The original can’t be topped, as it not only established the Halloween series, but helped inspire other franchises like Friday the 13th. The intro is iconic, with the point of view kill helping put viewers into the killer’s shoes. Michael Myers is also a smart killer. He doesn’t always go directly for the kill, sometimes he just watches, but always sticking to the shadows. However, when he does kill, they’re great. And while the side characters are annoying, this makes their deaths all the more satisfying. The ending is also great, with Loomis shooting Michael out and off of the balcony. Plus, the best part is that it brought us the famous Halloween theme, which is easily my favorite thing about the entire series.
