Pacific Rim: Uprising Review (SPOILER FREE)
Ever since technology has advanced, people have wanted to see it fight. So, it the only natural progression is to have giant robots fight giant monsters. The original Pacific Rim delivered on that front, and also managed to tell a fairly good story. So, does Pacific Rim: Uprising continue deliver on the story, and on the giant fights?
Story
Uprising starts 10 years after the original, and we follow Jake Pentecost, who lives in the ruins of an old Kaiju attack. However, Jake has to rejoin the fight when a new Kaiju threat starts to reveal itself.
Presentation
First and foremost, the visual effects look fantastic. The Jaegers and Kaiju all look amazing and realistic. Well, as realistic as 400-foot tall robots and monsters can look. The fights are amazing, with different weapons and battlefields helping to make each fight feel interesting and unique. And when it comes to sound design, you can feel each hit because of the sound of metal against monster. And there’s also the Pacific Rim main theme, which is just some great high octane music, and it carries the same weight as in the original.
Final Thoughts
Pacific Rim: Uprising is a good movie, but it’s nothing special. It is full of so many cliches, and they’re quite obvious. And well the original had a better story, Uprising has a fair amount of unique story moments. There’s also one great twist that will have repercussions for the possible future sequels. But let’s be honest, your here for the fights, and boy does Uprising deliver. However, there aren’t as many different Kaiju as in the original, but the final battle is one to remember. So if you’re a fan of giant action movies, you should definitely watch Pacific Rim: Uprising.
