One Year of Medium

As of today, September 22nd, it has been one year since I wrote and published my first story. That story was on Pokemon Sun and Moon, and can be found here. And before I talk about that story and this past year, I’m going to pat myself on the back. This was a pretty good first story. It’s a four minute read and has pictures to go along with the information. Although, it does have a fair amount of spelling errors and improper grammar, along with assuming people reading the story would know about Pokemon.

So, has my writing ability strengthened? I would say yes. I’ve written fairly consistently over this past year, writing at least one story per month. My largest months were June and July, as I wrote 11 stories in both, so 22 stories in all. As of this story, I’ve written 84 stories. My largest story was a review of the Steven Universe episode “Gem Heist”, with it having 173 views. I’ve also gained 83 followers since I first started my account.

But, why did I start writing? Well, it was all because of my dad, Jay Busbee. At that time I was really into the YouTube scene, and I wanted to be a famous YouTuber. However, I also wanted to talk about current gaming news. That’s when my dad told me about Medium, and I made an account. The next day, Nintendo released a news video on the upcoming games Pokemon Sun and Moon. I wrote about it after I had eaten breakfast, and published it before I went to school. This was the start of my writing, and I’ve come a long way since then.

Recently I’ve had many of my stories featured in The Cube, with my first story in it being written on May 31st. 12 of my stories have been featured in The Cube at the time of this story.

So, to finish this year in review, what is my favorite story I’ve written? Out of all the reviews, news updates, and editorials, I’ve got a lot to choose from. However, my favorite story is…Mighty №9’s Second Chance. I think it’s my finest work to date. I had to play the garbage called Mighty №9, as well as playing the much less terrible Mighty Gunvolt Burst. It also took a lot of research as well as going through other articles and Kickstarter posts. I also found that there has been basically no new information on Red Ash: The Indelible Legends, so it is falling down the exact same way as Mighty №9.

So, has my year been a good one on writing? Yes, it has. I started writing one year ago today, and I didn’t think anything was going to come of it. Now I sit here, writing with 83 followers and being part of a publication that has a few thousand followers. I never dreamed I could get that far in my first year of actual writing. Hopefully in a year from now, I’ll be writing my two year anniversary with tons more stories, and more followers. Either way, it’s been a great first year, and hopefully I’ve got many more to follow!
