Nintendo’s Upcoming Games in 2018
Nintendo had a phenomenal 2017, launching their new console the Nintendo Switch, as well as both a new Legend of Zelda and Mario game. So, Nintendo has finally shown what some of their new games are this year. This is all that we know so far from the recent Nintendo Direct, and should tie us over until E3.
The World Ends with You -Final Remix-
While this isn’t a new game, it is an updated version of the DS original that launched 10 years ago. The game starts when the main character Neku encounters the mysterious Shiki, and has to participate in a deadly game. Neku will be erased from existence if he doesn’t clear the mission in a certain amount of time. You can participate in the rhythmic RPG battles using the touch screen controls, or with a new joycon mode. The game will also include a large new scenario unique to this version. And as for when it launches, it will be sometime this year.
Pokkén Tournament DX DLC
Pokken Tournament DX is going to get more playable characters in the form of two DLC waves. The first wave features Aegislash, and new support Pokemon Mega Rayquaza and Mimikyu. The second wave has Blastoise, and a support set of Mew and Celebei. The DLC also includes new avatar customization items. Sadly, this will be paid DLC, but we don’t currently know the price. The first wave will release on January 31st, and the second wave will release on March 23rd.
Kirby Star Allies
Kirby and his friends are finally getting some new abilities to use in their first Switch game. The first ability is the Artist, in which you can draw something to go and attack enemies, or hit enemies with his paint brush. You can also ensnare enemies in webs with the new Spider ability. You can also make combo abilities with your allies such as the Zap Yo-yo, a mix of the spark and yo-yo ability. You can also combine water and ice to make an Icicle Lance. There’s also the friend throw, when you throw your allies at the enemies. And if you play with three others,you can share abilities to use things like the Friend Train or Friend Star. We also see some bosses that you’ll fight along the way, such as Meta Knight and Francisca, as well as an unknown deep space threat. Kirby Star Allies will release on March 16th this year.
Kirby Battle Royale Demo
The demo for Kirby Battle Royale is out today on the 3DS eshop.
Dragon Quest Builders Demo
The Dragon Quest Builders Demo also releases today on the Switch.
Hyrule Warriors Definitive Version
After the release of Hyrule Warriors, there was a good amount of DLC released. But now, not only will Hyrule Warriors be ported to the Nintendo Switch, but it will include all maps and characters from the DLC. You can also play two player on the same system. There are also new outfits for Link and Zelda based off of Breath of the Wild. It launches this spring.
Mario Tennis Aces
A new Mario Tennis game on the Switch! It has Mario characters dressed in traditional tennis attire. The game also has new ways to hit the ball to beat your opponent. There’s also a story mode involving different stages, scenarios, and even boss battles. It will release this spring.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA
This game follows the adventures of Adoll, who crashed on an island full of crazy monsters that have evolved. To survive, Adoll gathers the other survivors to build a base. As the adventure progress, your base grows, and monsters will attack it. Different characters have different attacks, and you can switch between them in battle. There are also special moves. The game releases this summer.
Super Mario Odyssey Update Luigi’s Balloon World
Super Mario Odyssey is getting its first free update in the form of Luigi’s Balloon. This activates after you beat the main story. Once you talk to Luigi, you can play two competitive modes. In Hide It mode, you have 30 seconds to hide a balloon. And in Find It mode, you have 30 seconds to find someone else’s balloon. By finding balloons and hiding them well, you can go up in the rankings. There will also be new outfits and filters with this update. This update will release in February.
SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy
Fan Favorite Heroines from different SNK games have gathered together to fight in 2 on 2 tag team battles. There are different items you can use during the matches to gain the upper hand. To knock out your opponent, you have to get their health really low and then initiate the Dream Finish, which fully knocks them out. You can also customize your fighter’s costume and pose. It will be available this summer.
ACA NEOGEO ART OF FIGHTING 2
Another old NEOGEO game, which released today on the Switch eshop.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle DLC
After a while since its release, we’re getting not only a new story set in a new world, but a new character as well, that being Donkey Kong. Judging from the trailer, he has a banana boomerang weapon, as well as the ability to climb structures. You’ll be able to get this DLC when it releases this spring.
PAYDAY 2
Payday 2 will be coming to the Switch, with both local and online multiplayer for 4 player co-op heisting. Not only will you be able to feel weapon recoil with the HD rumble, but there’s a new Switch exclusive character, Joy. She has a changing LED mask, exclusive weapons, and hacker perks. Payday 2 will be released on February 27th.
Fe
Fe is a 3D platformer where you explore a dark nordic forest, full of many monsters and secrets. You can use the joycons to sing in tune with plants and animals, unlocking special abilities. Fe will release on February 16th.
Celeste
Celeste is a modern take on action platformers. Madeline, the character, can climb any surface on Celeste Mountain, if she has enough stamina. She can also explore using her midair dash. However, if the game gets to difficult you can use assist mode to slow the game down, or even just make you invincible. Celeste will release on January 25th, just later this month.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for Nintendo Switch
The Donkey Kong Country series is making its way onto the Switch with a port of this Wii U title, updated with better graphics and a whole new character, Funky Kong. He can double jump, hover, perform infinite rolls, perform infinite underwater corkscrews, has five hearts, and he’s immune to spikes. You can also still have two player co-op. This game will be available on May 4th.
Dark Souls Remastered
Yes, Dark Souls will be on the Nintendo Switch. Sadly, it’s only the original, and we didn’t get to see any gameplay. But, we won’t have to wait much longer, as the game releases on May 25th.
