New Nintendo Direct Showcases New Games
Nintendo has been killing it with the Switch, which has been one of Nintendo’s most successful consoles in recent years. However, as we reach closer to the end of 2018, there are few previously announced games. So, did this Nintendo Direct rectify this problem?
3DS Games
Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn
The hit Wii game is making its way to the Nintendo 3ds. It will have all of the same stages as the Wii versions, while also including new power ups, a new Devilish Mode making the game harder, as well as minigames, which will allow you to play as other characters such as Meta Knight and King Dedede. It will release in 2019.
Mario and Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr’s Journey
The remake of the classic DS RPG is on its way, including a whole new story featuring Bowser Jr. It will be released on January 11th, 2019.
Luigi’s Mansion 3DS
The remake of Luigi’s Mansion will now have a two player mode, which can let you play together on a stage, or fight bosses together.
Yo-Kai Watch Blasters
The newest update in the Yo-Kai watch series is currently out, and will be recieving free DLC in the future. This DLC will include new boss fights and allies.
Switch Games
Luigi’s Mansion 3
This was shown at the beginning of the direct, and looks great. Of what was shown off, the gameplay seems to be the same as the previous entries, and it looks like it will be going back to the one Mansion structure of the first game.
Splatoon 2
Yet again, Splatoon 2 is getting a content update. This update will bring in new gear and weapons, and even a new game mode. However, this game mode seems like it won’t be ranked, but it will be in the same vain as turf war.
Megaman 11
Megaman 11 is just over the horizon, and will be playable October 2nd, but there is currently a demo out on the eshop.
Mario Tennis Aces
Mario Tennis Aces will be getting more content. There are four new confirmed players, those being Birdo, Shy Guy, Paratroopa, Petey Pirhana. But that’s not all, as more characters will be added up until next June. There’s also a new mode being released, co-op challenge. This will team you up with multiple players online, and you’ll have to complete limited time challenges. Defeating these will net you new outfits and color schemes for certain characters. This will release on September 19th.
Capcom Beat Em Up Bundle
Classic fighting games such as Final Fight, King of Dragons, Captain Commando, and several more will now be brought to the Switch. You can play these games when they release on September 18th.
New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe
The Wii U launch title of New Super Mario Bros U is getting a remaster and coming to Switch. Not only that, but it will also include two new characters, Nabbit and Toadette. This will also include the later released New Super Luigi U. This will be available on January 11th, 2019.
Katamari Damacy REROLL
The original Katamari Damacy is getting a remake for the Nintendo Switch. It won’t just update the graphics though, as it will also include motion controls and HD Rumble features. There’s also new multiplayer battles with up to four players. You can test out these features when the game releases this Winter.
Nintendo Switch Online
The upcoming Nintendo Switch Online has been shown off, with its major draw being the library of NES games. But there’s also cloud save data for games, and voice chat using the app. Members are also able to get special offers. There are also going to be new wireless NES controllers, which can be charged in the same way as joycons. Nintendo Switch Online will start on September 18th.
Pokemon Let’s GO Pikachu and Eevee
The upcoming Pokemon games have shown that either Pikachu or Eevee can use special moves, some which affect roadblocks in the game, and others which can be powerful in battle. It was also show that if you pet your Pokemon in handheld mode, you can change their hairstyle, depending on the way you put them.
Diablo III
Diablo III is coming to the Switch with all of its DLC, exclusive costumes, and the ability to use amiibo to summon more enemies. You can play Diablo III starting November 2nd.
Super Mario Party
The latest entry in the Mario Party series is bringing in some new modes with it. There’s the four player co-op mode of River Survival, the motion control mode of Sound Stage, and the classic Board Game mode, which features 80 completely new minigames. For single players there’s challenge mode, and both online and local co-op. You can try the newest entry in the series on October 5th.
Town
The newest series from Game Freak (the creators of Pokemon) has finally been shown. It’s an RPG that takes place entirely in one town, where monsters roam in, and you can call on villagers to help. Town will be released some time in 2019.
Cities: Skylines
A new SimCity style game is coming to the Switch, where it’s your job to build up cities and roads. The version released on the Switch features all the previously released DLC, and you can get it today.
Daemon x Machina
In Daemon x Machina you play as a mercenary in a mech who takes out robots. When you defeat them you can get parts to power and change your robot, or even upgrade your human character. There’s also a four player online co-op mode, and it releases in 2019.
Yoshi’s Crafted World
This is the now named, previously shown off Yoshi game. However it was shown today that you can have a second player join you on the adventure. You’ll be able to play the game in Spring of 2019.
Asmoddee
Tabletop games are being brought to the Switch. Games such as Carrassonne, Pandemic, and Lord of the Rings are available, with future games being Catan and Munchkin. The add ons for these games will be available as paid DLC.
Civilization VI
The latest entry of the Civilization series is being brought to the Switch, with an exclusive four player multiplayer mode. Civilization VI will be available on November 16th.
Starlink: Battle for Atlas
The Nintendo Switch version of Starlink will feature Fox McCloud as a playable character, the rest of his team as backup, and Wolf as an enemy. Starlink will be playable on October 16th.
The World Ends with You
This port will actually feature some new story segments, as well as updated graphics. The Switch version will be available on October 12th.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna The Golden Country
The paid DLC for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a prequel story with the same gameplay. It will be available on September 21st.
3rd Party Releases
Lots of games were announced including Warframe (November 20th), Just Dance 2019 (October 23), FIFA 19 (September 28), Team Sonic Racing (Winter), NBA 2K19 (Available now), NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 (Fall), and LEGO DC Super-villains (October 16).
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered
This remastered game will allow online multiplayer instead of its original link cable set up. There will also be new areas in dungeons. This will release sometime in 2019.
Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD

World of Final Fantasy Maxima
This game is being ported to the Switch, with the new ability to change into famous Final Fantasy characters from all across the series. This game will be available on November 6th.
Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon
This game is getting ported to the Switch as well, with some new features. This time you’ll be. able yo befriend all enemies, as well as play with another person.
Final Fantasy 12: Zodiac Age
Another port, this time it’s completely remastered though, and also includes a speed up button to quicken the pace. It will be released in winter 2019.
More Final Fantasy Ports
In addition to the previously mentioned games, Final Fantasy 7, 9, 10, and 10:2 will all be ported to the Switch.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate
Starting off the Smash news is the announcement of a Switch bundle, which also includes a special Smash joycon. But the much bigger news is the announcement of Animal Crossing’s Isabelle as a new fighter. She seems like she’ll play similar to Villager, with a few attacks changed up.
Animal Crossing
Yes, in addition to Isabelle being a fighter it was also announced that a new Animal Crossing game will be released on the Switch some time in 2019.
