Doomsday Clock #8 — Questions and Theories
While Doomsday Clock #8 was somewhat decentralized from the main story, that doesn’t mean it didn’t bring up questions that could have resounding effects for Doomsday Clock and the DC Universe. So, what major questions did Doomsday Clock #8 bring up? And fair warning, there will be spoilers in this article.
What did Ozymandias take from the White House?
The beginning of the issue starts with Ozymandias taking information from the White House, but what was the information? Presumably it’s the information about the Supermen Theory, more specifically the heroes created by the government. This could be used as leverage against the government so that Ozymandias could get all resources necessary to take back Dr. Manhattan to his world.
What was taken from Lois’s desk?
Near the beginning of the issue we see that Lois’s desk has been broken into, but without breaking any locks and leaving no fingerprints. Obviously Ozymandias would be capable of this, and if he was looking for information on Superman, or even the Supermen Theory, she would be a prime source.
What will Lois do about the Justice Society of America?
While not the main focus of this issue, we see Lois Lane get a package, presumably the one sent by Rorschach in a previous issue. In that package was a flash drive containing video of the Justice Society of America. With Lois being both an investigative reporter, and being married to Superman, it doesn’t seem like she’ll let this go. This could have major effect on what Superman does, especially if she tells Superman before he fights Dr. Manhattan, as Superman would obviously want them to be brought back.
What summoned Dr. Manhattan?
In the end of the issue we see that Dr. Manhattan is being summoned where Superman and Firestorm where. It’s unclear as to why he was summoned, because while it could be the radiation that was produced, last issue it was shown Bubastis had to channel the radiation to summon Manhattan. Seeing as Ozymandias was watching the event on screens similar to the ones in his arctic base, it would make sense if he had something to do with it.
What happened to Superman and Firestorm?
When Dr. Manhattan was summoned, Superman and Firestorm were in the middle of the area where the light appeared. Those two could be fine, as both are highly resistant to radiation, and are quite powerful. However, could it be that Firestorm and Superman were summoned to Dr. Manhattan instead? He has the power to do this, and it would incite the conflict that has been built since the beginning of the series.
