Doomsday Clock #5 Theories and Questions

Doomsday Clock #5 has officially been released, and it was another great entry in the Doomsday Clock series. In this issue we got more forward movement on the plot, which obviously means more questions will arise. So, how did this issue fare in terms of upcoming events in the series?

Is the Legion of Superheroes returning?

In this issue we see that the cell labelled Jane Doe wasn’t holding the obscure Batman villain, but rather the Legionnaire Saturn Girl. While there’s currently no Legion of Superheroes in DC Rebirth, we are slowly getting more and more pre-Flashpoint characters such as the original Wally West, and maybe his family too. So, could Saturn Girl’s helping Rorschach all be in an effort to get the League back, possibly from Dr. Manhattan? That’s what it seems like as of now.

Who is the Comedian hunting?

We only get one page of the Comedian in this issue, and he says he’s hunting down the nut jobs who killed tons of people in a bar. We of course know that it’s Mime and Marionette, but how would the Comedian? Presumably he would want to track down the recently escaped Ozymandias, as opposed to two criminals that he shouldn’t even know about. But the likely reason is that he assumes that the Mime and Marionette will lead him to Ozymandias, Rorschach, or Dr. Manhattan himself.

Why is Killer Frost lying?

There’s a few panels this issue which show both heroes and villains being interviewed about the Supermen theory. However, she says that not only she, but Metamorpho, Man-Bat, Clayface, and Firestorm are all weapons created in the USA. But as comic readers know, this isn’t true, so why is Killer Frost lying? Everybody knows she’s a villain, so she might be using this angle to be freed of charges. Either that, or she’s being offered something of the Supermen theory creator in return. This would give her a reason to lie, and could also help us deduce who started this theory.

Who started the Supermen theory?

One of the most interesting things Doomsday Clock has presented is the Supermen theory. It states that because 97% of the metahuman population resides in America, at least some of them are government projects created to mimic Superman. But this theory has actually revealed some people are government experiments, such as Metamorpho. So this prompts the question, who started this theory? Lois assumes it’s Lex, but he reveals that it wasn’t him, but he does know that it was somebody in the Justice League. This doesn’t really narrow it down, but it could be someone who would work with Killer Frost, or could at least give her a worthwhile reward. And remember, this series is taking place a year into the future, meaning it could be somebody who hasn’t worked with the Justice League yet.

Is the Justice Society of America returning?

A few issues ago, it was revealed that the All-American Steel Factory burned down due to green flame. This seemed to point to the return of the original Green Lantern. However, in this issue we that it wasn’t Alan there, just his power battery. This was found by John Thunder, who used to be partners with the genie Thunderbolt. But now we see that he was trying to find Alan, which led him to the factory, which had him meeting up with Rorschach and Saturn Girl instead. Both Thunder and Saturn Girl seem to be trying to get their teams back, similar to who the original Wally West came back. However, speedsters just go into the speedforce when they die, so Jay Garrick could come back, just as he tried to in The Button. However, how would the Legion of Superheros or the JSA come back? It must not be impossible though, as Alan Scott’s battery was found, just not Scott himself.
