Doomsday Clock #5 Review
Ever since Doomsday Clock switched to a bimonthly release schedule, each issue has felt more special and carried more weight to it. However, this has also made it so each issue is being held up to higher expectations, which can make a great thing feel much worse than it actually is. So, after last issue focused on the past, does this issue keep a good flow while setting up future events?
Story (SPOILERS)
Issue #5 of Doomsday Clock follows multiple different story lines that have been started in other issues, such as Ozymandias breaking out of the hospital and meeting Batman, Mime and Marionette finding the Joker, Rorschach escaping prison, and a tie in to a previously shown newspaper headline. These plot threads have major impacts on the current story, but also an impact on future DC storylines, as Doomsday Clock takes place one year in the future.
Presentation
Obviously the comic looks good, but in this issue we see some new character interactions. There are also a bunch of new environments that we’ve heard about but not seen yet, such as the all american steel factory. This issue also gives Joker a new outfit from his current Batman run, one which I personally enjoy much more.
Final Thoughts
After issue #4’s look into Rorschach’s past, it’s good to get some forward movement on the plot. There’s also a lot of potential on what could happen, and some fan favorite characters could be making their returns through the Doomsday Clock series. Either way, Doomsday Clock is doing great with a concept many people were skeptical about, and the Watchmen characters are fitting in quite well to the DC Universe.
