Before Deadpool was released, there were almost no good R-rated superhero movies. But Deadpool totally flipped the script, making a funny, action packed, and actually good R-rated superhero movie. And after Deadpool we got the amazing Logan. Seeing as those are the two best X-Men movies, even without featuring the X-Men, does Deadpool 2 keep up the momentum and make another great R-rated addition to the X-Men universe?

Story

When it comes to responsible superheroes, Deadpool isn’t on anybody’s list. But that somewhat changes when he decides to protect a young mutant from Cable. But he can’t do it alone, so he decides to form a team called X-Force.

Presentation

The presentation of Deadpool 2 amps up what was done before, and it perfectly fits Deadpool. Whether it’s hiding subtle Easter eggs and cameos in plain sight, or even making jokes about the stereotypical orchestral music in fight scenes, Deadpool 2 is always keeping you engaged. There are also some great comic references, such as the X-Force team being made up of mostly obscure characters like Bedlam and Shatterstar. And when it comes to the fight scenes, that’s when Deadpool is at his finest. Whether it’s unconvential fighting, his constant jokes, or the severity of the fight, Deadpool 2 is great when there are fights abound.

Final Thoughts

Deadpool 2 is a great movie, and far exceeds the original. It also manages to have some character growth that feels like a natural progression from the last movie. But Deadpool 2 didn’t just continue with great characters, but almost everything that was great about the original comes back in full force. From pop culture references to Easter eggs to unique fight scenes, Deadpool 2 improves on just about everything fans loved from before. But while Deadpool 2 is a really fun movie, it never does anything too crazy.

8.5/10
