Characters That Should Be In Mario Tennis Aces
Nintendo has finally announced Mario’s first sport outing on the Nintendo Switch, that being Mario Tennis Aces. We’ve gotten a fair amount of information already, and that includes on the roster. Everybody loves playing as different Mushroom Kingdom residents, and it seems as if the vast majority of the roster has already been revealed. We know of Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Peach, Rosalina, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Chain Chomp, Yoshi, Daisy, Donkey Kong, Toad, Toadette, and Boo. It was also announced that not only would there be more than 15 characters, but that characters could be earned as rewards in online tournaments. So, who do I think should be join the roster of Mario Tennis Aces?
Koopa Troopa
Koopa Troopa is one of Mario’s most iconic villains, and he’s all but confirmed for the Mario Tennis Aces. The reason I say this is because when the characters being rewards for online tournaments was announced, a silhouette of him was shown. Also, he’s been in almost every other Mario sports game.
Spike
This isn’t speculation as much as it is accidentally confirmed. That’s because in a recent Nintendo Switch commercial, the character selection screen for Mario Tennis Aces was shown, and an icon for Spike could be seen in the video. Spike will likely be one of the “more than 15 characters,” that will first be available when the game launches.
Shy Guy
Another staple in the Mario sports series, Shy Guy has appeared in most sports games. While he does usually serve the spot of the fill in character, it would be a shame to end his spot filling days on the Switch. Plus, if enemies like Boo and Chain Chomp can make it, Shy Guy should be able to make a glorious return to tennis.
Birdo
Ever since Birdo and Yoshi have been in the same game, they’ve always been paired up together. Whether its in a relationship, or just a partnership, these two are always working together. In Mario Kart Double Dash, they were partners, so for Mario Tennis Aces, so why not have them play doubles together?
King K. Rool
Even though King K. Rool hasn’t been present in many games as of late, but this villain of Donkey Kong deserves some time to shine, even if it is in a spinoff game. King K. Rool has been featured in other sports games, so he wouldn’t be completely new, and his raw strength and awful speed could make an interesting new character to play against in tennis.
The Broodals
When it comes to new characters, Mario Tennis Aces doesn’t seem to have any. So, this would be a great chance to put at least one of Super Mario Odyssey’s new villains in. Each of the five Broodals has a unique body type and different way of fighting, which could allow for separate unique move sets for all of them.
Kamek
Kamek has always been a loyal servant of Bowser, but even he has had time to play sports with Mario before. He doesn’t even need to change much, because he could use his wand to hit a tennis ball, as opposed to shooting out magic. Plus, his potential move set is huge, due to his magic abilities, which could grow or shrink the ball, or other players.
Pauline
Pauline is in a weird scenario, in which she’s both known as a new and old character. Pauline was who Mario saved in the original Donkey Kong, and she’s regained popularity for being the Mayor of New Donk City in Super Mario Odyssey. So, a good way to show representation for both the new and the old would be to include Pauline, who has never been in a Mario sports game before.
Wiggler
Wiggler isn’t a common contestant in Mario sports games, but he’s had a few outings, and has been quite good in those games. While he may seem like a strange choice, just remember that the Chain Chomp is confirmed to be a playable character in Mario Tennis Aces, so Wiggler isn’t entirely unlikely. Plus, Wiggler could be a very unique tennis player, with his long body, and his potential to get angry when his racket is more broken down.
Diddy Kong
Whenever Donkey Kong is featured in a game, it’s likely that Diddy isn’t far behind. Diddy Kong has been featured in many Mario spinoffs, especially when it comes to sports games. So, it seems obvious that Diddy would join another sports foray, possibly as a reward for one of the online tournaments.
Professor E. Gadd
Professor E. Gadd has been a long time side character in many games from Luigi’s Manison to the Mario and Luigi series. So, why not put him in the newest tennis game, where side characters get the chance to shine. His play style could also be unique, because he’s an inventor, so he could use tons of machines to play.
Funky Kong
Funky Kong is the coolest Kong, and soon he’s going to be returning to a major game, that being the Funky mode in Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. So, as a way to slightly promote the new game, why not put him in the newest sports game? Also, he could use his surfboard as his tennis racket, just like how he used it as a baseball bat in Mario Super Sluggers.
