Castlevania is Out of Its Rut

If you’re an avid gamer you’ve played a Castlevania game, or have at least heard the gameplay term “Metroidvania.” However, Castlevania is owned by the now Pachinko-obsessed company Konami. Konami has been losing support for its antics, firing Kojima and cancelling Silent Hills, but Castlevania has just been absent since 2014's Lords of Shadow 2, which only gained decent scores.

Today, has brought a new moon shining on the series, bringing relevance to the series again. The official Netflix Castlevania show has a trailer, showing the horror and violence the series has always strived to achieve. The story seems like it will be retelling the plot of the original game, a smart choice for the first mature video game cartoon. This series will launch quite soon, July 7th,waving a short wait for diehard fans.

In a longer wait is the next Castlevania game, well, inspired game. The game is Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It is being developed by a large amount of former Konami workers, and the lead developer is Koji Igarashi, who worked and many Castlevania games, including what is considered to be the preeminent entry, Symphony of the Night. This sounds good, but so did games like Mighty No. 9. However, with Playtomic Games’s new hit Yooka-Laylee, I’d say that it has a good chance of success.

Either way, it’s a very good time to be a Castlevania fan, after the series had lain dormant for some time. However, not everything that looks good is that way, especially in the world of Video Games, but only time will tell.
